I've started making the elevator control
cables. One this end attached a shackle that
will attach to the elevator.
This end attaches to the bellcrank on the
control stick. Unfortunately when I build
this end, I forgot to add the turn buckle
through the cable. So I had to cut this end
off and do it again. Luckily the length of
this cable is not important so cutting the
end off and making a new end does not
Here are the two ends. I actually had to cut
one of these ends off because I forgot to
put the cable through the adjustable piece
(I forget what it's callled)
I'm now mounting the upper and lower cable
pulleys. I've made this stiffener L that
gets riveted to the under side of the top
You can see the second stiffener here primed
and clecoed to the top of the skin.
Here they are riveted.
And the pulley is visible from the rear.
So far the cable interferes with nothing.
I'm showing you this pic because this is
where I've mounted the top pulley. I was
sure it would work here but when I hooked up
the cables to the control stick, the angle
that it comes out of the top skin makes it
rub on the hole. So the pulley has to be
I thought I could move it back one set of
holes so that I could still use the
stiffener angle that I made and mounted
under the top skin. But even here the cable
rubs. The pulley still needs to be moved
Here is a good spot for it. Notice that I've
filled the four original mounting holes with
rivets to close the holes. So now I have an
extra stiffener in there that's not being
used. Oh well, maybe it's helping stiffen up
the whole area?
